On December 17th, professionals from SPSL S.A., Sabesp (Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo), and subcontractors attended a lecture presented by nurse Raquel Santos Oliveira in the ETA VGP auditorium on Orange December. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of prevention as the best way to avoid skin cancer. “Early detection and self-examination are important, but prevention is still the best way to avoid cancer,” said Ranieri Ribeiro, president of CIPA (Internal Commission for Accident Prevention).
During the lecture, Raquel showed images illustrating the different types of skin cancer. She explained that benign lesions, when detected early, can be removed with a high success rate. “In addition to using sunscreen with adequate SPF, we recommend seeking shade during times of peak sun intensity, wearing clothing that protects the skin, such as long-sleeved shirts and light pants, and moisturizing the skin frequently. It is important to remember that sunscreen should be reapplied throughout the day,” advised the nurse during the lecture.
At the end, Raquel answered questions from participants, followed by an activity organized by CIPA that assessed the professionals’ knowledge on the topic.
